Inca Trail Tour Group

Paul and Johnna >
Our SAS tour group for the Inca Trail or trial as it became known consisted of our guide: Oscar, six anonymous hardworking and no doubt poorly paid porters including the cook and 11 tourists: Claire, Will, Dederick and Anneleise, Tony and Jackie from Boston, USA, Yoshi and Yumi from Kobi, Japan, Kismet from Brussels, Belgium, Marcel from Geneva(?), Switzerland and Andrew from Annapolis, USA. Right then, down to the nitty gritty...

Oscar - "We're gonna spend the next four days together, I'm your friend", we wanted to believe him, but as you quickly learn in South American everyone is your friend before they try to rip you off. Maybe I'm being unkind? But the guy definitely had his own agenda, getting us to walk the trail in 3 days instead of 4 ("Wow, you guys are betting all my records for the fastest walk" - yeah right), stopping at certain restaurants for lunch, quick 'pre-recorded' tours of the ruins and avoiding answering specific questions were his speciality. Having said all that he is proud of his Quechua heritage.

Tony and Jackie hail from Boston, Massachussettes, USA. Tony has just finished a masters programme in Environmental Science and Jackie is a teacher, there in Peru for a few weeks before Tony starts working. Tony sported a very fetching canary yellow and green Norwich City FC bobble hat, and as he quite rightly pointed out this was the only yellow hat on this and probably any other mountain in Peru. Tony also had one other starring role, unfortunately he was the first to go down with a stomach bug, but heroically made it to the bitter end.

Yoshi and Yumi are an economist and dentist respectively, Yoshi represented Japan at middle distance running and they were both in Kobi when the earthquake struck - a terrifying experience.

Kismet is taking some time out before (probably) attending Kings College in London to study law.

Marcel works as an economist in Switzerland and joined up with his sister to continue their tour of Peru and possibly Bolivia

Andrew an Aussie (aka Pom baiter) lives in the US and works with those giant screens you see at major entertainment events around the world. He's invited us to visit him in the US a decision we may well take him up on.
