Karina, Lionel, Claire, Roman, George in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni

Salar de Uyuni Tour Group consisted of our driver: Roman, George, Lionel, Karina and ourselves. Roman was officially titled our "guide", but in reality he was closer to a driver as he hardly said a word. Got us across the Salar - just, before running out of petrol and ending any possibility of earning a tip, although in mitigation he did get a mouthful of petrol whilst syphoning into the empty tank. His lunches were the prime suspect in the infamous Salar Diarrohea case. George was sterling British through and through, cracking sense of humour and integral cog in the group's

| interpreting machine: Roman spoke Spanish (occasionally) to Karina, who translated into French for Lionel and George, who interpreted into English for the two dunces at the back. Hails from Islington where he works for an advertising company and studied in Oxford. Karina and Lionel lived and worked together in Santiago for over a year and were good fun on the trip, putting up with dodgy English jokes about the French, continued their tour into Bolivia after we said goodby in Uyuni.
