The Captain is a jovial chap, loves the sound of his own voice - but then I suppose you have to if you're the captain. Likes a joke and a competitive game of table-football. His brother owns a franchise of Italian restaurants - La Dolce Vita - in the New Jersey / New York area of the USA. Doesn't like being asked trivial questions when suppervising the difficult unloading of a very heavy cargo.

The Chief Engineer, Jospeh, is another jovial chap who loves to tease his team of engineers, especially Pepe, and those passengers up for it. Lives in Sicily with his wife and two sons. Ship's reigning table-tennis champion and very strong at table-football. Party trick: throwing a ball of deep fried rissoto rice high into the air and catching it in his mouth, 50% chance of success. Supports Fiorentina.

The Chief Officer, is a serious, dapper man, responsible for all the crew and cargo. Gave us our ticking-off at Santos, if you want to leave the ship you have to speak to this man before doing so. Likes to eat meat esp. pig's trotters and play's the guitar at crew parties.

Antonio, the steward, (sort of) cleans our room and serves lunch and dinner, rarely seen without a fag in his mouth and leaves a trail of fag ash round the ship. Drives a hard bargain for gifts with the street vendors at Dakar for his children incl. his twinks (aka twins).

The Engineer Team: Pepe (1st Officer), Carlo (2nd Officer), Gianni (3rd Officer), Miguel (the smaller) and Vincenzo - Cadets. Pepe is a lovely, quiet bloke, always got a smile and hello for you, the recipient of most of Joseph's teasing, also works hard in the engine room but prefers to take his meals with the general crew rather than the officers. Cut his finger badly during the trip and Claire was asked to examine it - her being a nurse :-). Carlo, always laughing and telling jokes, rolls his eyes when the officers give speeches, supports Genoa - the only Italian team to beat Liverpool at home. Gianni, nice amiable guy, another recipient of Joseph's teasing, hails from Roma. Miguel (aka David Beckham) another nice guy likes to chat and is a willing partner for Will in table tennis and football which they always lose. Vincenzo, large, sullen guy who rarely smiles.

The rest: Paulo, the long, curly haired, Brian May look a like, who came and showed us to our rooms at Southampton, quiet spoken and very nice. Nicknamed "Maria, Maria, Maria" by Nellie. Fabrizio, cheeky young chap, v. good spoken english. Antonio (aka muscles) works out in the ship's gym, loves a crowd and any excuse to display those muscles, training for weight-lifting competition in Roma at the end of the year. Miguel (the larger) frightening large, with conquistador style moustache, likes to get stuck-in, always says hello and is very helpful. Augusto, quiet bloke, very nice, always says "Hi" and willing to help out. Romanian crew, we didn't much of these guys, they kept themselves to themselves, one exceptions: one guy who always said hello the best text-book English accent e.g. good afternoon.
