< Day 19

Day 20 - Thursday 13th April 2000

Day 21 >
We had a disappointment this morning as we found out we would not have time to go into Rio, the ship was due to depart at 10am. We were both a little fed up but cannot really complain as we are not on a passenger ship and so sightseeing comes a definite second to cargo and schedules. The ship is behind schedule by one day at the moment, if it takes too long in port the shipping company can be fined (we're picking up lots of 'fascinating' information about cargo ships to bore you all to tears with !) One thing that reconciled us was the fact that Rio was shrouded in a thick fog so even if we had gone ashore we would have seen little from Christ's statue. We said goodbye to Rio and the Cococabana as we sailed out of port - c'est la vie.

We have a new face on board, Marco is a Dutch engineer who has come from Rotterdam to try and fix the ships engine problems (we weren't aware there were any problems, ignorance is bliss) he seems a nice guy, late twenties and he speaks good English, I think Wills pleased, less need for 'girls talk' with me!
