Although it felt like we hadn't had any sleep on the overnight bus, we woke to the sights, sounds and smells of other passengers enjoying their breakfasts at 7 am. Once awake we watched the countryside pass by on our way to Villarrica. The scenary was beautiful, wooded hills, valleys with mist, lakes and challets - similar to Switzerland. We disembarked in Villarrica and after a few wrong turns we made our way through the sleepy streets to La Torre Suiza Hostel (run by a young Swiss couple who biked around the world). We stayed in our wood paneled room for a while deciding what to do with our day and summoning the energy to make a start, we had seen a couple of tours we wanted to book and need to find operators.
Villarrica is a small town located on the shore of a huge lake, over shadowed by the Vulcan Villarrica - an active volcano which last erupted in 1984. We explored the town, buying lunch, walking and eating lunch by the lake, finding tourist information and tour operators. After booking our tour up the volcano for tomorrow we headed back to the hostel to cook dinner - the first time we have cooked in over 2 months, then an early night ready for the 6.30am start.
