In the morning we pack quickly and join up with Dederick and Annaleise, we go to the office to discuss the currency issue, but no one is there so we leave 25 soles for each room and make a hasty exit. At the railway Anneleise and Claire go to the office to buy our tickets whilst Dederick and myself wait with the bags. Firtunately we get tickets and get on the train, which leaves 10 minutes earlier that advertised, surprising a few tourists who have to scramble to get on board. The train journey to Ollantaytambo follows the valley along the river through spectacular scenary and past old Inca ruins. The river which has numerous dangerous rapids has carved weird sculptures out of the rock, something along the lines of Henry Moore statues. We disembark at Ollantaytambo and pile onto a small bus heading to Cusco.
Once in Cusco we check into nicer accomodation at the Hostal Suissa II and take a shower - the lights dim and flicker when you use the electric shower, we're not convinced of the Peruvian saftey standards and opt to wear our rubber flip-flops whilst showering. Having cleaned up we go out to shop around for flight tickets to Lima from Cusco, finally agreeing on two $59 tickets for the hour flight. Then we catch up with some emails and buy some goodies from an Artesan market before enjoying a final meal in South America with Anneleise and Dederick.
