< Day 81

Day 82 - Wednesday 14th June 2000

Day 83 >
Our bus to Lima left early just to try and catch us out, but we were equal to the task and settled in for the journey which was quite uneventful. The scenery is mostly desert until the road meets the coast and then a grey blanket of fog descends and shrouds the views. One of the interesting parts of travelling by bus in S, America is the people who board at any and every opportunity i.e. when it stops, to sell all manner of things - mostly food (nuts, crisps, cake, drinks, fruit, sinister looking jams / chutney), but today was a first for us as a man boarded then lectured the passengers and then tried to flog us some dodgy smelling, bees-wax looking stuff - needless to say we didn't buy (maybe the Guinnea Pig taught me a lesson).

At the Lima terminal we hooked up with a young Peruvian pilot from Nasca and a German girl to share a taxi through Lima to the airport - another nerve racking trip through city streets in a huge gas-gussling US car. Our wait at the airport was longer than intended as the American Airlines plane was delayed by an hour due to bad weather. Finally at 1.40am we boarded the airplane, stuffed full of Dunkin' Dounuts and other assorted junk food (there was little else to do at the airport but eat). Dallas here we come...
