After the car stresses of yesterday we made use of the motel comforts for as long as we could and didn't get on the road until midday when we were evicted from our room. We drove through the very scenic and rural vineyards of northern California until we found a welcoming winery where we were able to do a little tasting for free - naturally. As it was quiet and we were the only visitors at this particular winery the salesman in the tasting room was very chatty and keen for us to try the selection of wines available. After about 4 half glasses of wine we were feeling quite fine and coul have easily settled in for the day at the cosey bar, but unfortunately they had no accomodation and we would have had to start buying the wine sooner or later so we moved on.
As we moved further north we started to enter the land of the redwood forests and lumberjacks - confirmed when we stopped at a local store and were by locals clad in checked shirts and baseball caps - this seems like 'real' America, no more perfect Californians! Our campsite for the night was in a redwood grove, the giant trees make you feel tiny and insignificant in nature's grand scheme - similar to the feeling of gazing at the billions of stars on a clear night. We drank our wine, purchased from the vineyard earlier in the day, in the still darkness and retired for an early night.
