This morning we left the redwood forests behind us heading north east, inland and across the California / Oregan border. On the way to Crater Lake National Park we passed through quirky little towns listening to country and western music our spirits rising as we left the costal sea mists for the warmn Oregan sunshine. We're both Oregan virgins and I'm pleased that we are now both seeing things for the first time and Claire can no longer say "when I was here before blah blah blah...". The park entrance and campsite is in thick pine forest which you have to drive through to get to the rim of the caldera (collapsed volcano), where you finally get a glimpse over the side. The view is breathtaking, a huge caldera with steep sloping sides and a perfect cobalt blue lake. We returned to our campsite saving further exploration until tomorrow and in the evening attended a Park Ranger's presentation about the caldera and lake in an outdoor auditorium under the stars.
