We were on the road fairly early again - S+J are early risers - heading east out of Kamloops towards the Rocky Mountains - great scenery: forested hills, rivers and little communities. We were leading in our Explorer and Claire was navigating, spotting a more rural alternative to the freeway that looped around a lake and met up again with the main road further on and suggested a detour. Freeway driving gets a bit tedious after a while, S+J agreed and we took the smaller road, having a picnic lunch at the side of the lake.
After a while the smaller road became unpaved and smaller still - we were heading out into the sticks, although on the map the road didn't look that long, it didin't show all the available alternatives and the route was poorly sign posted. We stopped in a small village: Seymour's Arm to ask for directions and a very friendly Canadian guy (used to lost strangers seeking help?) drew us a map to help us on our way. Unfortunately the detour took longer than expected, although we enjoyed the back road driving, S+J were more concerned as their car wasn't really equipped for this kind of terrain. We got back onto the main road around 7.30pm and checked into the next suitable and available motel.
