Waking to a beautiful morning and view the four of us had a nice breakfast overlooking the lake - S+J had been up a couple of hours and walked around the grounds of the motel enjoying the early morning tranquility. Setting off east the scenery became more grand as we approached the Rockies - towering snow capped mountains, glaciers, pine clad valleys and didn't suggest any alternate routes. At lunch time we stopped and walked a short trail along the site of the old Canadian Pacific Railway, the fresh air waking us up and raising our spirits.
Unfortunately we were delayed again in the afternoon as there had been a bad accident (not our car fortunately) on the only road through the area and the mostly tourist traffic was backed up quite a way. We waited for an hour or more but it wasn't much of a hardship as the scenery was wonderful and we sat in the sun catching up with the journal. On our way again S+J saw a black bear run across the road from one forest to another, we were envious that they'd seen a bear and we'd missed it. In the evening we had our last meal with my parents at a cosy little family restaurant in Golden, much more succesful than the previous night with good food and company. We've really enjoyed the days spent with S+J, catching up with news, being spoilt and spending time with them after having been away so long - there have been a few homesickness pangs for both of us, but we've overcome them and not bought any hoeward bound tickets ... yet.
