< Day 143

Day 144 - Tuesday 15th August 2000

Day 145 >
Up for a good early breakfast in the same restaurant where we ate last night's meal, then said our goodbyes to S+J and in the same scenario as 4 and a half months ago waved goodbye as they drove off in their car again. We had a quiet morning catching up with a few chores (laundry and e-mails) in the sweet little town of Golden which appears as clean and perfect as if it were a television set, before setting off to climb up into the Rockies which dwarf this little town.

The road climbed gradually and the views became more amazing with every corner - many of the peaks have sheer rock faces dotted with glaciers and snow, the rivers are an icy blue that almost looks torquoise in some lights. We stopped breifly for lunch by a river but were keen to get to the campsite to secure a pitch. When we arrived at the campsite we realised we needn't have worried - it was only half full - ? Grizzlies? Freezing Nights? We settled into our familiar routine of setting camp and when done went into Lake Louise village centre to buy food, a fleece for me - my original was stolen in the car break in and put our names down for a guided walk tomorrow. There are many bold-as-brass squirrels in the campsite, but no bears yet...
