< Day 145

Day 146 - Thursday 17th August 2000

Day 147 >
Slightly less freezing than last night or maybe we were more prepared, we woke feeling stiff and tired from yesterday's exertions, but didn't dwell as we had an hour to pack and vacate the campsite. We drove north, along the main road that runs through the Rockies to Jasper. On the way we passed impressive ice fields and glaciers we viewed from the comfort of the car - not really feeling up to exploring on foot. By late afternoon we arrived in Jasper and checked into a huge (700+ sites) campground on the edge of town where we set about cooking and collecting wood (and chopping it ;-)).

We had planned on an early night, but got chatting to our neighbours: Jade (a guy from Edmonton) and his fiancee: Pam, who told us of a good bar in Jasper that had live music tonight, they were going and said we could share a taxi back if we wanted. However I think we were in denial about how knackered we actually were and after a couple of beers each we could hardly summon the effort to have a conversation - we would have been sad company. At 10pm we quietly snuck out of the bar and caught a taxi back to the campsite - fortunately w didn't bump into Jade and Pam who later learnt had had a real session and didn't make it back until 2am. We are becoming serious lightweights!
