Up early-ish for a quick exit from the campsite. Livingston isn't too far from the northern entrance to Yellowstone so after a couple of hours we were in the park. Our first stop was at the village of Mamouth to book our campsite and we were surprised at the sight of elk wandering around and mingling with the tourists (maybe we'll get to spot our elusive bear here?). We set up camp in our spot at the campsite in Canyon village - there are a number of different areas / villages to stay in within the park i.e. Mamouth Springs, Fishing Bridge, Old Faithfull, etc, a typical national park site i.e. forested, individual clearings, lots of space, picnic table, firering. Then lost our moment and spent a couple of hours messing about and relaxing.
By late afternoon we took a walk to our nearby village, purchasing a few things at the gift shop. After dinner we went to a Ranger talk on bison / buffalo, the park has a few herds and we learnt some interesting facts about these huge beasts. Bed early - prepared for a cold night...
