Day 152: Wednesday, 23rd August 2000 Day 153: Thursday, 24th August 2000 Up early-ish for a quick exit from the campsite... Day 154: Friday, 25th August 2000 Due to our new ($4.99) K-mart blanket the night wasn't as cold and uncomfortable as anticipated... Day 155: Saturday, 26th August 2000 After our walk yesterday it was good to sit in the car this morning and drive around the park to see 'Old Faithfull'... Day 156: Sunday, 27th August 2000 We both woke feeling pretty damp after a poor nights sleep, water penetrated the floor, our foam mats... Day 157: Monday, 28th August 2000 Up early feelin dryer than yesterday and we're on the road within a couple of hours... Day 158: Tuesday, 29th August 2000 Out of the grotty motel fairly early, our 1st stop was a 'lube shop' to treat the car to an oil change... Day 159: Wednesday, 30th August 2000 Up impressively early at 7am and on the road by 9am - part of a commitment to drive further in a day and hopefully to arrive earlier at a campsite... Day 160: Thursday, 31st August 2000 Pulling back the curtains in our motel room we were greeted by a dull, overcast day - remnants of last nights storms, we continued east out of Valentine... Day 161: Friday, 1st September 2000 Woken suddenly at 6.30 by a storm - loud claps of rolling thunder and forks of lightening illuminating the tent... Day 162: Saturday, 2nd September 2000 The day was hot and humid early in South Iowa, so we packed up and left the arguing vacationers behind us... Day 163: Sunday, 3rd September 2000 At 6.30 we were woken by the rumbling thundery skies and not wanting a wet tent scenario again, jumped out of bed and packed the tent in the record time of 15 minutes... Day 164: Monday, 4th September 2000 Labour Day - USA. We had a lie in this morning as there wasn't really anyhting to get up for... Day 165: Tuesday, 5th September 2000 Out of the now deserted campsite early, we slowly drove to the nearest town and got the tyre replaced... Day 166: Wednesday, 6th September 2000 It was good to have a night's respite from camping at the motel, we'd watched Frasier, had a undisturbed night's sleep... Day 167: Thursday, 7th September 2000 Woke to the sound of pinecones 'pinging' off the ground around our tent... Day 168: Friday, 8th September 2000 Claire woke earlier than Will and in a moment of kindness decided not to disturb him and so lay watching the enemy (spiders) climbing on the outside of the tent... Day 169: Saturday, 9th September 2000 P&J are early risers and we didn't want to hold them up so by 10ish we had eaten our american breakfast - waffles with maple syrup... Day 170: Sunday, 10th September 2000 P&J had committed themselves to helping out at a local folk-festival in the morning and so were up and gone before we saw them... Day 171: Monday, 11th September 2000 For breakfast Johnna took us to her favourite downtown cafe where we were served huge coffees... Day 172: Tuesday, 12th September 2000 P&J both had to go into the city today for meeting, giving us the opportunity have the house to ourselves which we took advantage of... Day 173: Wednesday, 13th September 2000 My first day on her own, Will was up early, following Paul's example and we had breakfast together, before I set off into the city... Day 174: Thursday, 14th September 2000 I felt the need to do something a bit more constructive with my day today and so instead of whiling away the hours in bookshops... Day 175: Friday, 15th September 2000 There was a more relaxed 'Friday' feel to the house this morning. Will, Johnna and I had breakfast together and then I set off, once again, into town on the metro... Day 176: Saturday, 16th September 2000 We had a lazy morning sitting out on the sunny deck, reading the paper and tucking in to Paul's 'special' breakfast ommelettes... Day 177: Sunday, 17th September 2000 Wonderful lie-in this morning followed by a day catching up with jobs... Day 178: Monday, 18th September 2000 Back into the working week for everyone else except me. In the morning, feeling very independent and empowered... Day 179: Tuesday, 19th September 2000 A tropical storm has hit Florida and today we got its tailend, lots of rain and grey skies... Day 180: Wednesday, 20th September 2000 A quiet day, in the morning I took a stroll into Takoma Park to sort out a few things and get some grocerys... Day 181: Thursday, 21st September 2000 I was able to show off my newly acquired knowledge of DC this morning when Will and I went into the centre... Day 182: Friday, 22nd September 2000 Will and I took another trip into DC this morning to get our anti-malarial medication for Asia... Day 183: Saturday, 23rd September 2000 We've got P&J's house to ourselves this weekend as they've gone off to look for land... Day 184: Sunday, 24th September 2000 We had planned a quiet day, enjoying having the house to ourselves and preparing for hitting the road tomorrow... Day 185: Monday, 25th September 2000 An early start to say our goodbyes to Paul and wave him off to work, quickly pack and eat breakfast before Johnna gave us a lift to the metro station... Day 186: Tuesday, 26th September 2000 A wet and wild day in the Big Apple, the temperature had dropped, the wind picked up and the rain was falling... Day 187: Wednesday, 27th September 2000 We walked down to the tip of Manhattan, found the heliport and checked in with Liberty Helicopters for our "Big Apple" tour... Day 188: Thursday, 28th September 2000 A lie in, then organised our transport to JFK airport for tomorrow morning and our LA accomodation, before eating a late breakfast... Day 189: Friday, 29th September 2000 We were up early today and travelled through a quiet N.Y to the airport where we caught our 5 hour flight to L.A.... Day 190: Saturday, 30th September 2000 Feeling refreshed from tons of sleep we got going early, leaving our bags with the motel and venturing out into L.A suburbia... Day 191: Sunday, 1st October 2000 We effectively lost today as we left L.A at 12.30 this morning and arrived in Hong Kong on Monday at 6 am - very confusing... |
