Conference’98

By the time you receive a copy of this Newsletter, a small group of us will be packing our cases to go to New York. Our first transatlantic conference! Our USA colleagues have told us that only 8 UK members will be joining them in USA. In the past three years, only a small number of UK members have gone to the Conferences. Although we publicise these events, we know that the market and businesses are not at their peak. Could it be that some of you are facing the fact that your Company is not very keen to sponsor you to go? Perhaps we could discuss this at our next AGM. We believe that after we come back from New York, we ought to have an open evening where we could meet and perhaps ask our members to bring someone from their companies to the meeting so they can meet other members and judge for themselves the opportunities we have in networking, training and business acquaintances. We would like to hear your suggestions on the subject.

Conference'99

Crèche for London Conference 1999

WISTA-UK member Debra Andreassen, has been investigating the possibility of providing creche facilities and evening baby-sitting for any WISTA members who would like to (or need to) bring along their children to the next conference in London and Southampton next year. The idea is to provide children of all ages with organized activities overseen by qualified staff during the day, and to also organize supervision in the evenings when events are scheduled. Obviously it is important in arranging this, to have some idea of numbers of children and their ages. If anyone is interested in this idea please contact Debra Andreassen via e-mail address to: noraus@btinternet.com

Or by fax to +44 181 715 7160

On July 24th, we received notification, from the Vice-President of WISTA International & the President of WISTA-DENMARK of the sad loss of a friend and a WISTA member: Inge Seemholt.

Obituary

Inge Seemholt

" It is with deep sorrow, that I have to inform you that our Treasurer, Inge Seemholt passed away on 23rd July 1998, she was 45 years old.

In October 1997, Inge discovered she had lung cancer. After treatment, the hospital told her that she had recovered. Shortly after that, a new outbreak was discovered and after a while, she was declared incurable. I know that she wanted to live very much, but the news extinguished her spirit to fight.

Inge managed however to make her last wish come true -7 hours before she died, she married her fiancé, Steen Burmeister to whom she had been engaged for 17 years.

Inge became a board member in May 1992 when we founded WISTA-Denmark and we will always be thankful for the work she put into the association. She was a very strong figure who always spoke her honest mind. She was loyal and hard working and we, who knew and worked together with her, will miss her very much and it will not be easy to fill her place in WISTA-Denmark.

Inge was working in the Chartering Department of the Ships Operator Gas Division of Kil Management A/S a subsidiary of Knud I. Larsen A/S, she had been working in the shipping industry for over 22 years."
