P & I Clubs on Risk

This year for the first time a Lloyd's syndicate is offering P&l and FD & D insurance in competition with the International Group of P&l Clubs. The syndicate concerned is JL Jones & Others also known as syndicate 329 which already writes a substantial book of business on Hull and Machinery risks. As the cover being offered is new for Lloyd's there was clearly a need to employ people with expertise in this particular field.

Senior underwriter, Stuart Todd was persuaded to leave Thomas Miller and join syndicate 329 which led to my being approached to assist in the set-up and functioning of the facility particularly in relation to claims. I agreed to help on a consultancy basis, with what is proving to be an exciting and popular alternative to the Clubs and which still gives me time to continue to work as a part time maritime arbitrator.

Ince & Co Breakfasts

The monthly WISTA breakfasts which began at the end of last year have been well supported by London-based members of WISTA - UK. All members and their friends are invited to attend and enjoy a reasonably-priced sumptuous breakfast at the new London Bridge Hotel. The breakfasts provide an excellent forum to meet and exchange ideas with like-minded business women. Breakfasts are held from 8.15am on the second Wednesday of each month. Please contact Louise Krenca or Catherine Bloomfield at Ince & Co on 0171 623 2011 prior to the event to book a place.

A New Year and a New Board

Karina Albers, WISTA-UK's Deputy Chair has left Howe Robinson and is now working for Ifchor in Switzerland. We also say farewell to Jane Atkinson, WISTA-UK's Treasurer for a number of years, who has resigned from the Board. We wish them both well.

In their place we welcome two new Board Members. Catherine Bloomfield. a maritime law specialist with Ince & Co, has taken over the role of Treasurer. Marie-France Dias of Poseidan (sic) Average Adjusters also joins the Board. Marie-France graduated in Belgium and subsequently joined Sedgwick Marine as a marine placing broker. Since joining Poseidan (sic), she has spent six months in their New York office but is now based in London
