The West
Lancashire Fencing Club is one of the leading clubs in the North West of
England. In recent years, members have won trophies and medals in National,
Open, Regional, Age Group and Novices tournaments, and several have been
selected to represent the North West region in national competitions. The
club meets in the old gym at Edge Hill University College, St Helens Road,
Ormskirk on Wednesday evenings between 8.00pm and 10.00pm during the fencing
season (September to June). The
three kinds of weapon used in the sport are known as foil, epée and sabre. All three are actively fenced at the club. Courses
are run for newcomers to fencing and beginners of all ages are welcome. All the necessary weapons and protective
clothing are available for the use of beginners and the club only asks that
they wear trainers and tough, loose fitting trousers such as tracksuit
bottoms or jeans. |
