Bergen and the west of Norway

I have been travelling to this outpost since 1981 and have actually lived there for 18 months (long story - another time...). and find it very hard to encapsulate this very strange place. It is full of paradoxes and anomalies and populated by the strangest of people. I don't wish to sound unkind (really!) but even they admit that some of their day to day activities defy explanation. "That's just the way we do it." is a phrase I come across on a daily basis. So when I encounter one of their enigmas I just shrug and say " Its probably just a Norwegian thing"
