This
has got to be amongst the worlds most treacherous roads.
There is no room for two cars to pass each other and
something like a bus or lorry will fill the road from
mountain side to precipice. And the drop is hundreds
of feet
Anyway,
a good friend of mine, Edwin, came over on a secondment
to Bergen from Manila. Personally I though that bringing
a Filipino over to Norway in winter was pretty cruel.
I mean they put their coats on when the temperature
reaches 20 degrees, which ironically is the same temprature
at which the Norwegians start taking their clothes
off.
So,
since he had not seen snow or ice outiside of the cooler
box before I thought I'd take him to see some pretty
dramtic examples of both. Here is one of the many frozen
waterfalls.
And
snow as far as the eye can see
And
deep enough to swallow a man.
Remember
I said that this used to main the main route to the
capital?
The other guy is Jun who was also on
secondment.
.............
I
think it was minus 6 at this point. I had not actually
anticipated getting out of the car (can you tell?).
This
is very Norwegian. Find the most inhospital place you
can and then build a house there.
One
of the many frozen reservoirs up here. And yes we did
walk on it.
I
think it was very memorable for all. Then we went on
to Voss
