31st May 2003

The grass snake (two foot long) is discovered sun-bathing on a rock and swims away.

29th May 2003

A heron was disturbed just after killing a roach.

26th May 2003

This year's unusually friendly pair of Moorhen have produced their first brood of five chicks. The parents come towards people for food to take back to their nest on the island.

17th May 2003

Completed a return for a national survey of bluebells. See: Bluebells For Britain. Only one small area contained Spanish Bluebells; most of the garden has clumps of genuinely Native Bluebells.

25th Apr. 2003

A new batch of carp are given to the pond: 2 Golden Koi, 5 black goldfish, 3 white goldfish, 2 large red and 11 small red goldfish - 23 in all. Spot the connection with the Gospel of the day!

30th Jan. 2003

First blooms of the year are a pink Camellia and a very early Daffodil. Snowflakes follow soon after.

27th Feb. 2002

First newly planted Camellia in bloom.

Seasons confused - a new family of Mallard ducklings appeared on Remembrance Sunday.

Filming in the Worth Abbey Quiet Garden for a Channel 4 Programme 'My Eden', to be broadcast next summer.

Worth Abbey Quiet Garden is awarded First Place in the Landscape category of the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards.

Following the advice of the farming community, the Garden is closed to the public as a precaution in the Foot and Mouth epidemic. The access path is near grazing horses and there are many wild dear crossing the area.
