Support

Worth Abbey Quiet Garden welcomes any form of support and invites you to consider these possibilities:
  • Visiting and praying in the Garden.

This is the most important form of support. Without it there is nothing to distinguish it from any other sort of garden. See Where and When.

  • Bring a friend.

Introduce a friend to the Garden and, perhaps, other aspects of Worth Abbey. There are many liturgies in the church (see Times) and various events, talks, courses and retreats in the Centre for Spirituality.

  • Bring a group.

Use the garden for a prayerful gathering for some special occasion or just to be together in this natural setting. There are many suggestions for meditations and how to use a quiet garden in the Quiet Garden Home Page or see Meditations.

  • Help with the Gardening or Publicity.

Any amount of time, skill and strength can find a useful outlet in the never ending task of keeping and improving the Garden. See Development to get an idea of what there is to do. This could embrace anything from picking up a few fallen twigs and putting them on the bonfire heap to looking after a patch of garden to digging out the toughest of weed roots.

If you are able and willing to offer some of your time and effort at gardening or publicity please contact Fr Patrick to see how your help could fit in. (See Who)

  • Donation of materials, tools, plants.

The Development page lists many items that will be needed to improve the garden. If you would like to give something in kind, please contact Fr Patrick to ask if what you have in mind might be appropriate and timely. (See Who)

  • Memorials.

As a place of prayer, the garden is an appropriate place for plants, shrubs or trees to be planted as memorials to loved ones who have passed away. Please contact Fr Patrick (See Who) to ask about what might best fit in with the ethos of the garden and to agree the best place for it. Small plaques, in an agreed form, may be attached. It would be helpful also to arrange some form of long term care of the plant, either by regular visits or some form of regular donation (see below). Scattering or burying of ashes in certain agreed areas of the garden is also quite appropriate.

  • Individual Sponsorship.

Money is always useful to put towards the many possible expenses envisaged in Developments. Donations - one off or regular can be made by cash, cheque, Gift Aid or Bankers Order. Any cheques should be made payable to "Worth Abbey" and all will be collected into a 'restricted fund' that will be used solely for the development and running of the Quiet Garden.

  • Corporate Sponsorship.

Any organisation, business or corporate body may also support the Quiet Garden as part of their charitable donations. The restricted fund for the Quiet Garden is part of the Registered Charity of Worth Abbey Number 233572.

Any help will go towards the greater enjoyment of the garden by a greater number of people.

Jesus said to them, "Come away with me. Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while." (Mark 6:31)
