Breidden Hills

The Breiddens are an outstanding feature of the view from the OD path for many miles along the Severn's embankment. They are formed from hard igneous rocks and rise steeply from the surrounding plain.

They are heavily quarried for road stone by ARC.

On a prominent summit at 1200' (365m) is situated Admiral Rodney's Pillar erected in 1781 to commemorate his naval victory in the French Wars.

There are remains of an iron age hill fort together with evidence of both earlier and later settlements.
