This is a romantic
thriller, which is set in playing cards. Clubs and diamonds
are the minor suits, hearts and spades the major. The suits represent
four countries.
The protagonist, is Jeffrey Lock, an
ambitious young
man who starts life as an ordinary farmer's boy, a Two of
Clubs.
The Jack of Spades, ruthless Black Prince Victor, raids Clubland, rapes
Jeffrey's mother, and savagely murders his father and brother.
From then on Jeffrey is passionately out
for
revenge. Powerful forces support him in his climb through the royal
courts of Cardlands seeking status, rank and power, while darker forces
attempt to prevent him.There are loyal and colourful friends who help
him. And there is the distraction of the Diamond Princess, for whom he
develops an obsessional passion.
